2023 Trail Maintenance Schedule
Trails for All volunteers (you’re invited to be one) will help maintain six trails this year. We will clear trees that have fallen across the trail, trim branches and brush that encroach on the trail, and build small drainage diversions. All tools are provided, and no special abilities are required. Last year our volunteers ranged in age from early teens to late 70s. Please consider finding a day or even a half day when you can enhance the recreational resources that give us all so much enjoyment. Your fellow, friendly, Trails for All volunteers look forward to working with you.

NEXT UP!
Saturday, August 12th, 2023 -- North Taylor Creek Trail
Type of work:
- Use handsaws (provided) to cut downed trees (deadfalls).
- Daylighting (cutting limbs and brush that encroach on the trail) using limb loppers and handsaws (provided).
- The day will begin with a short overview of USFS safety instructions, proper use of the tools, and work objectives. After receiving this overview volunteers will need to sign the USFS Volunteer Service Agreement which will then cover the volunteers under USFS workers comp insurance.
- It will be semi-hardwork (but rewarding) and lots of fun with friendly people! Each volunteer can work at her/his own pace; we all have different abilities.
- The crew leaders for the day will be Doris Keene and Chuck Ziehr.
The hike:
- Begin at 8 a.m. at the Comanche/Venable Trailhead (on CR 140, Schoolfield Road just before Alvarado Campground and Alpine Lodge) at an elevation of 9,050 feet. Ample parking is available and is accessible with a 2WD vehicle.
- Return to the parking area (expect about a 3 to 6-mile roundtrip hike) no later than 3:00 p.m.; volunteers who need to leave earlier (for any reason) may do so; just be sure a crew leader knows when you leave.
What to bring:
- Long-sleeve shirt, long pants, sturdy boots, hat or cap, work gloves and eye protection (prescription glasses or sunglasses--protective googles and work gloves will be provided for anyone needing them (all items are required by the USFS)
- Sunscreen and bug repellent are also a good idea.
- Water, snack, and food for lunch--you'll need a small backpack for food, water, and personal supplies.
- Please: no dogs are permitted (for the safety of the dogs, crew, wildlife, and other hikers).
- COVID protocols – if anyone is experiencing symptoms or has been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive, please be safe and do not participate in the workday.
